Are Teams For You?

It’s important to determine whether teams are right for your organization before you begin your implementation. Why? Because the support structure that is required for successful teams is important to team success.

If you attempt to organize your workforce around a team concept and decide in midstream to move in a different direction, the impact to the morale of your organization is tremendous. Answer these simple questions.

1. Can a specific purpose be determined for each team?

2. Is the leadership ready to support teams in both words and actions?

3. Are you willing to invest the time and money it takes to provide your teams with the necessary tools (training, meeting time, etc.)?

4. Are you patient enough to wait at least a year for productivity improvements?

5. Can you provide ongoing support to your teams as they change, stumble and grow?

These are just a few of the questions you should address before moving into a team-based structure, but are some of the most important.

If you answered yes to all of the above questions, you’ve looked at the idea of implementing a team-based structure from a realistic view. If you answered no to any of the questions, you might want to investigate a little further before jumping in.
