How To Work In A Team Where Everyone Wants To Be The “Big Chief”

The biggest problem about teams is everyone wants to the big chief. How as a team member, do I deal with this and get the job done?

Actually, if a team is set up properly with the right team members in the right roles, each team member should have a chance to be the big chief.

That would mean that the strengths they brought to the team were being used to move the team toward success in its goal achievement. That’s a win – win for both the team and the organization.

But I suspect that’s not what you are referring to, right?

Depending on your team role your best bet is to first understand what it is that is expected of you. If you don’t know that, you need to find out by talking with your team leader. Then you’ll want to talk with the other team members and determine how you can help them be successful.

If you can make it happen, it would be a good idea to have a team meeting to clarify team member roles and identify how each team member supports the others. That would be a huge benefit for your team.
