The Hurricane Season Peaks — Is Your Team Ready?

Sadly last week Hurricane Katrina ravaged Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. How many of the businesses in those states will never be in business again? And how long will it take them to get up and running?

Most businesspeople think it will just take two or three days. That’s tough to do if you have no plan for action and little money to move forward. The reality, experts say, is more like several months and at least 25 percent of businesses that experience a disaster never reopen. Don’t let that be your company.

Most people think Florida when they think hurricane. But the reality is there are at least eighteen states — every state on the Gulf of Mexico coast and those on the Atlantic coast of the US — that are vulnerable to a hurricane. Not to mention that hurricanes move inland and can impact most of the northeastern US.

Today we begin the peak of the hurricane season. September is historically the busiest month of the year for hurricanes to develop. Whether you live in a “hurricane state” or not, be ready. Here are some resources to guide your team’s way.
