How to Keep Team Members On Board

by Denise O'Berry

Most of my clients are being challenged with retention of their star players. In oilfield services, construction, etc. the key players are being head hunted on a regular basis and offered large increases to jump ship. What can be done to stop the tide form going out?

The Team Doc Says…

This reminds me of the “good ‘ol days” when all the tech folks were jumping ship for the almighty dollar.

There’s a whole lot more to keeping employees than money. But you have to find out what that is. These people would probably leave eventually anyway — the money is a good reason to jump ship when you’re already less than happy.

The best way to find out what will keep them as key employees in your business is to involve them in the discussion. Find out what they value, what most satisfies them at work and what obstacles are in their way.
