Team Member eMail A Problem

by Denise O'Berry

As part of our company’s effort to move forward and improve, we implemented email access for all team members. Now it seems as though nobody talks anymore. All discussions are conducted via email. Help!

The Team Doc Says…

Time for a team meeting -– face-to-face. Email is a really good tool to support other team communications, but as you have found it often gets abused. Not only does it cause a lot of extra work for your team, it can create conflict where there was none and cause misunderstandings to snowball.

The best way to deal with this is to have a team meeting and discuss what is the appropriate use of email in your team communications. And make sure you are having regular team meetings. A lot of email communication among team members is often an indicator of a deeper communication issue.

Best regards,
