Look In The Leadership Mirror To Solve Problem

by Denise O'Berry

What can I do to promote and encourage punctuality among staff members? A sense for time and respect for other people’s time is lacking in many in my organization. we’ve looked at some options including an Employee of the Month program.

The Team Doc Says…

I’m not big on “of the month” type programs as I feel they exclude too many people. One of the things you need to make sure of is what the leadership is demonstrating in this area. If they aren’t punctual, no one else will be.

Punctuality needs to be something the entire organization values for it to work. Once you get past the leadership and values issues, peer pressure works real well as a motivator for change.

Both the constructive feedback and positive feedback models from a peer perspective can help you change your organization.
