How to End a Team

by Denise O'Berry

Our high performance team is breaking up due to a restructure. Everyone adores each other. I am bringing everyone together for an evening of closure. Is there some sort of activity that you can recommend that would facilitate that?

The Team Doc Says…

What a great opportunity to take a walk down memory lane! To begin with, leverage the strength of your team by making them a part of the closing process and evening of memories.

Ask each person to talk about the highlight they most remember about being a part of the team. You could use a 30 second commercial format — their thoughts would be broadcast like a 30 second commercial.

You may also want to use a roast format for this special evening of closing your team. Each team member could roast someone else or subgroups within the team could choose a topic to roast the team about.

Have fun with your evening and kudos to you for recognizing the importance of closing your team after their work is done.
