I am interested what team building programs could be good for top management of the company. What do you think will be in the future?
The Team Doc Says…
I would hope that once a team member reaches the top management level, team building programs would not be necessary. But that is more common sense than common practice.
In many traditional companies, leaders rise to the top because of their technical skills not necessarily because they have the ability to lead. So that means some sort of team building is in order for team members who are steering the company ship.
Given that, my choice for what would be “new” in the coming year are “old” tried and true tactics.
Number one on that list is strategic planning. Leaders must create a vision for the future and develop a framework that will drive the business forward. They need not be worried about the “how”; it’s the “what” that is important.
Second is to practice, practice, and more practice the art of communicating well. Working with other team members on the leadership team to communicate with each other and present a united front to the rest of the organization.
These two areas, when developed properly for and by leadership, will get the organization the most bang for the buck and result in more engaged employees and better return on investment.
