How to Integrate a New Team Member Using Web 2.0 Social Networking

by Denise O'Berry

I hear all this hype about web 2.0 social networking. Is there a place for this in my team?

The Team Doc Says…

You bet web 2.0 can benefit your team and your team building activities.

The tools that are considered web 2.0 help connect people together online — think facebook, myspace and linkedin to name a few.

For new members of your team, it is critically important they be brought on board quickly. Web 2.0 tools can help you do that.

Here’s a short slide show to demonstrate that point much better than I can say it. :-)

What do you think? Does your team use web 2.0 tools? Leave me a comment and tell me about it.

The earlier generation had proprietary ownership over information – organizationally and publicly – for example. Encyclopedia’s you usually only had one set for reference, dictionary maybe two or three. Now with the internet you have all the information right at your fingertips – content and information are no longer proprietary. This ties into the gen Y and web 2.0 tools perspective – all the information that an employee needs can now be a few clicks away. This if properly implemented can speed up many processes. Team members now expect speed and web 2.0 increases “best practice sharing” as well as creating a community where all failures attempts and data base are all located on the companies intra-net.

I agree that technology has been a huge driver for this generation, and us Baby Boomers have framed and shaped their expectations. Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts.
