Team Member Feels Let Down

Its been a year since I joined an IT systems and Networks team from my previous role at IT Helpdesk team. I am unhappy. I am from a non-English speaking, ethnic background. Other members simply ignore me, when I speak they pretend as if they are having difficulty understanding me. (My English is fine) They are always busy whenever I approach them, but among themselves they have lot of fun and have spare time. Professionally they love to dump work on me, but reluctant to assist. I was given no induction at all when I joined. Another female member who started just couple of months ago, was personally trained and now she is much more productive then I am. What should I do??? Please help..

The Team Doc Says…

The best course of action you can take is to talk with your team leader or supervisor about the situation.

Make sure you approach the discussion from a behavioral perspective, not a perceived impression perspective. Somewhat like you detailed in your message to me. I do not recommend you compare your treatment to that of the other employee.

During this discussion focus on what is being said or done (specifically) and how it is impacting your ability to be a fully contributing team member. For help, take a look at Team Feedback: A Priceless Communication Tool.
